Welcome

Welcome to the website of The School for the German Language Inc. Our school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009 and has a proud tradition of teaching and maintaining the German language in South Australia.

The School for the German Language Inc. is a community school. Community schools are after-hours language schools and not part of the regular school system. It is almost certainly the first ethnic school in South Australia and maintains a reputation as one of the most respected in Adelaide.

Since its inception in 1959 the school has grown steadily, comprising Preschool to Year 12, from which students may complete SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education) and continue to University. Children come voluntarily every Saturday morning during the school term to maintain German as their first language (L1) or to learn German as a second language (L2).

Highly qualified teachers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Australia ensure that the curriculum is both academic and of high quality. Our teachers, specialised books, games and methods have made our school a model for multicultural education in South Australia.

Over the past few years the school has moved premises due to the increasing number of students attending the school. The majority of classes are now held at Adelaide High School on West Terrace, while the Pre-school, Reception and Year 1 meet at Sturt Street Primary School. A parent initiated Playgroup for under 4 year olds meets casually at the German Association on Flinders Street.

On behalf of all members of the school community, I welcome you to our school.

Ulrike Glinzner

Principal
